Lucky envelopes

Here was what happen in the first day of the Chinese New Year, I got up early in the morning, without doing anything to myself I went straight to the kids’ room and got my four children up, I said “It’s Chinese New Year now!” Everybody was so excited, they hurried up wash themselves, and then we got to the kitchen table for the breakfast. We were having Chinese New Year food today. Before everybody started to eat, I reached in my pocket and got out a pile of red lucky envelopes, I handed them to my children one by one. At this moment, I had a flashback in my mind, I felt like I was my mother, doing what she was doing decades ago. But this time, it was happening in a different generation.

Chinese New Year

Kung Hei Fat Choy ! Today is the first day of the year of Ox. We’ve been busy shopping traditional food such as candy, deep fried dumplings, dried melon seed and tangerines. We went to Chinese store yesterday but it’s very crowded, everybody was in a hurry buying things for New Year preparation.

Returning goods

You can take a lot of advantage when you being a consumer in this country. I did not say that is bad, but sometimes people are very stingy, they return things that are after being use and the merchants can not refuse, because of the law. I’ve witnessed that there was a lady who was driving a Mercedes, she wanted to return goods after she parked her car in their parking lot for a prior of time, (It’s very difficult to find parking spot in San Francisco) obviously she was shopping around in the near by stores. But unfortunately, the store refused her request because she bought dairy product. See how people are even they are driving a decent car. And talking about shopping, my husband bought two 350G hard drives last week, which are totally useless to us because you need to reload everything in the computer when you install a new hard drive. And we just don’t have that kind of time, but he’s not going to return them because he doesn’t want to. I guess we will keep the two hard drives.

Recycle trees

People toss out their Christmas tree mostly in January. Fortunately, the city will recycle them and use it as the gardening materiel.

Airship ride

Let me tell you a secret. I can see Golden Gate Bridge from my window. Although it only a small part of it, but we are luckier than most of the neighbors. I found another new thing flying by the other day, it’s an airship for the tourists, and I bet the view from up there must be spectacular. http://www.airshipventures.com/index.php

The Street of San Francisco

Here we have a funny looking picture of my daughter, that’s because I was using a point and shoot camera. It has a wide angle but will make the close up face look funny. Well, heck with it. One thing I know, you can not look beautiful all the time.

Brown eyed blue eyed

It’s reminded me this TV show when I listening to this song. An Iowa teacher taught her students about discrimination right after Martin Luther King was assassinate. This method was very daring for school kids today. It's because the political incorrect, teachers could get fire by doing the same thing. http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/divided/etc/view.html

Mountain Lake

This lake is a natural lake. It has been existed before Spanish was here. In the matter of fact, Indian used to drink the water out of it. Nowadays, there is a golf club and a city park around it. It is a high end neighborhood among Richmond District. I enjoy bringing my kids here to feed the ducks.

24

24 is the antiterrorism TV show of Fox. I’ve only seen the first season on line two months ago, but I like the concept of one episode represents one hour of real time thing, total 24 hours that the crisis was happening. The screenwriters are trying to bring up some messages for American people in this season. First of all, it’s the male heroism, it takes guys to protect this country, all the female characters are either bad guys or drop dead like flies. (Although I don’t agree with it) Second of it, we could have an honest black guy to be our president (keep dreaming, no politicians are honest). And don’t forget they made the first season eight years ago. Third of it, the writers are warning the young people that you should think twice before you do anything stupid. The consequence could be lethal. I hope that people will get them. I think I’m going to watch the 7th season on TV first (There is a female president in it) because we’ve just bought a digital converter box for the high definition TV. http://www.hulu.com/24

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,And never brought to mind?Should auld acquaintance be forgot,And auld lang syne? Chorus:For auld lang syne, my dear,For auld lang syne. We'll take a cup o' kindness yet,For auld lang syne. And surely ye'll be your pint-stowp!And surely I'll be mine! And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,for auld lang syne.We twa hae run about the braesAnd pou'd the gowans fine. We've wandered mony a weary foot,Sin' auld lang syne.We twa hae sported i' the burn,From morning sun till dine,But seas between us braid hae roaredSin' auld lang syne. And ther's a hand, my trusty friend,And gie's a hand o' thine; We'll tak' a right good willie-waught,,For auld lang syne.
